• Perito Moreno Glacier
Is the main attraction of southern Patagonia, with its 5 kms wide, 30km depth and 60 mts above lake level. It’s also one of the three glaciers of Patagonia which are not retreating, but advancing, forming a natural dam which separates the two halves of the lake when it reaches the shore. Every 4 or 6 years this natural dam breaks down because of the enormous pressure of the lake level, and this natural phenomenon is the reason why this glacier became the star of the National Park. The glacier is located 80 kms from El Calafate, so you should book the Perito Moreno Glacier full day tour to visit it and the Mini-trekking on the Perito Moreno Glacier tour if you want to sail along the glacier front, take a walk through the forest and get in direct contact with the glacier by waking on it, have lunch on it, and enjoying a whisky on the “glacier’s” rocks!
• Upsala, Spegazzini, Agazzi and Onelli’s glaciers
Upsala and Spegazzini glaciers are the largest and the tallest glaciers in the National Park respectively, and to visit them you should book the Todo Glaciares full day tour which departs from Punta Bandera. This excursion includes a hike through the Patagonian forest, from Onelli’s Bay to Onelli’s lake, a small water mirror full of small icebergs broken off from the glaciers Onelli, Botado and Agazzi.
• Estancias Patagonicas
To visit a Patagonian ranch is a must; not only to be in contact with the natural environment and the local way of living but to taste the popular Patagonian lamb. Some of the most famous ranches are El Galpón del Glaciar, Estancia Cristina, Estancia Alice and Estancia Nibepo-Aike.
